Last sail of season

Norm and Pat came out for a nice sail in 16 degree weather with good southerly winds

Once past the Gut, it we headed south on a beat.  On the way back the winds backed and we were closed haul.

Came back into the harbour and we removed and folded the sail.  Season is over. Haul out Monday

easy going October Monday sail

Weather was nice and warm and light winds.

Cindy and I sailed Bellum out to the middle of the lake in light eastern winds.  Sunset was 18:00 so we put down the sails and anchored had pork chop supper in the sunset.

The winds were supposed to pick up with significant from the east about 5AM. We decided it would be better to dock rather than anchor near the club so we motored back to the club.

Thanksgiving at Grand Anse

I left the dock with some help from Bob in a south wind.

Had a nice easy sail to Grand Anse, nice evening.  Great sunset, awesome full hunter moon.  It was very bright.  Nice evening.  Great sunrise.  Calm morning.  Temperature was 10.  Fairly nice.

Evening sail

Hunter Moon

I sailed for an hour, followed by some drifting and then motored back to the club.
Sunrise

I gassed up, did a big pump out, fixed the missing port spreader end with rigging tape and cleaned up and lubricated main halyard sheave.

Cleaned up the boat and then biked to Access Electronics and did Indian groceries.  Nice bike ride through Bois-de-Liesse Nature Park.  What a nice park.  Then dropped in on Chris to pick up a cake he got for me at Costco.

Nice day.

Frostbite III

Chris, Norm and I went out at 9AM in nice crisp blue sky morning for the Frostbite.

Winds were very light and we only had the 135 with no spinnaker.

We did the first circuit and could not make it to the mark in the second circuit.  We abandon the race.

We sucked.  I think I am going to buy a cruising boat or take up golf.

Nice sail upwind and down wind back to the club.

Chris painted boat name on his cradle and I took the dinghy around Dorval Island to drain the 915 watt battery to about half.  It was at 35 percent.

I helped Norm fold his head sail.  He went home.

The weather was very nice so I decided to go out for the night for Thanksgiving.  Bob helped me depart in a south wind. See the next blog entry.

Value Investment Meet-Up

Wakeup to Sun Rise
I slept aboard.  Got up to Sun Rise, had breakfast and greeted Jeff and Ryan for a quick sail before our Value Investing meet-up.

Winds were light from the east, we sailed to around SL 33 and back to the gut and motored back to the harbour at 1 for the 2PM meet-up.

After the meetup some stayed for supper and Jeff, Ryan, Frank and Khoa came aboard for a post mortem with Mr Bushmill and Mr. Jameson.

Chris came and joined us.  Norm came later.  Chris gave Jeff and Ryan a lift back to town.

Friday sailing

Marc, Phoebe and Diana came out for a Friday afternoon sail and a BBQ aboard.

We met at 1 and departed at 1:30 after donating a Harp to an fellow dry sailor.  I biked to the club.

The winds were light, but getting stronger in the evening and the almost full moon was coming up.

Before departing, I had decided that it would be too windy to anchor for a BBQ so we decided to BBQ at dock.  Marc was not staying for dinner.  Olga was going to join us for dinner.

We had a nice sail, great sunset with moon rise.

Had pork tenderloin with garlic savory cupcakes, rice and asparagus.  Marc had his first Oyster.  (The club was having their Oyster party).  Marc changed his mind and stayed, Ola cancelled.

Pas de deux - pas NOT

I was really looking forward to an October sail with Maud.  We had planned this at the beginning of the season.  But on Friday night, there was zero winds in the forecast.  So we cancelled.

I had not much to do, so I biked to the club and headed out.

The winds picked up so I put up my sails and did it.  Nice sail. We (I) was pretty much the third to last boat when the winds died.  I abandoned the race.

I came in to PCYC and docked.  I was told to use another dock where Andre used to be. That dock was full and they found me another dock.  Then it turns out there was the closing supper that night and there were no chili meal.  I lounged around for about an hour and then left.  Frank helped me undock.

I sailed toward Dowkers and then back towards the club.  There were very few boats on the lake.

Airway under fluorescent spi

I saw Airway under asymmetric spinnaker heading out.

Forecasts were for light winds so I anchor for the night so I anchored west of Dorval Island, probably where Denise likes to anchor for supper of a Pork Chop and some potatoes.

Overnight, winds were 16 knots plus gusts.  It was rock and roll.  I got up at 4 AM in 8 degree weather plus wind to put out more rode.

More winds than expected
About 8 AM I came back to the club docking with a south wind with Flow Control to the North.  I made it - under a bit of power.

Soon the frostbiters left for their race.

I lingered around the club, found Flow Control cradle, kayak, Cygnus, and the trailer.

Biked back to town to write this blog entry.

Frostbite 1

Norm, Maud, Frank and Jean-Luc joined us in light and fluky winds

Tried the spinnaker sock and it was badly twisted.

Conventional spinnaker worked.

First race, we messed up.

Second race, on the second circuit, the winds were very fluky and we drifted and made a big circle around the windward mark.   We could not finish and abandoned the race.

We tried to fly the spinnaker back to the club.

The winds shifted to the east so we reversed under motor filling the spinnaker.  Interesting.

Turns out they did try a third race.  A very short race.

Afterwards, we put up the mast on Flow Control.

Very very flaky winds

Mast is up

Single Handed weekend.

After the meet-up, I got up and went to the boathouse sale.

New Cockpit tent
Got a Ronstan AAir AIR ARCH Inflatable Boom Tent. Been wanting one for a long time.

Went to the fabric sale at the church at 1300 Carson. Got a BBQ chicken and had some chicken at the boat.

I cleaned up the boat from the meet-up.  Tidy up the locker.

Set up the new cockpit tent - pretty nice.

Nice tent
Went to Gaucho and had a beer.

I took a nap.

Watch Chris and Norm bring Flow Control to the club.

Went out to the bay beside the club and put the tent back on.

Had a swim - water warmed up to 19C

Saw Fugu go out.  He reported 4 knots of winds at the sandbars.

Nice sunset.  Zero winds. Had a good sleep.  Got up the next morning.

Cindy cancelled our sailing.  I called Jimmy to tell him it was too windy for sailing.

Winds were suppose to be light and then 15 gusting 30.  I sailed to the channel and stood still for about two hours as the four Laser 28's passed me.

Eventually I was drifting precariously so I motored to the main lake and drifted some more.  Around  noon the winds picked up and I was sailing.  Not a concern in the world except for the 30 knot gusts in the forecast.  About 1:30, the winds got to 18 and then down to 15 and I decided to head back to the club.  Peter passed me the docking line.  Good thing in a west wind.

Hung around the club, tidy the locker, moved some stuff between boat and locker

Had a beer on Gaucho. She had bent her spinnaker pole.

Forecasted wind for the afternoon
Chris came in and we helped him stow the mast.

Afterwards I washed the deck and filled the starboard water tank.

I tried washing Flow Control coach roof.  It was pretty disgusting.  Got some dirt off.

Meet-UP

Phoebe, Alex, Iwona and Natalia come out for nice afternoon of sailing.

Winds were good.  Sailed around and we decided to stay later to have a BBQ, loud music, watch the sunset and someone smuggled a bottle of Gray Goose. <geeze>

A great night sail back.  Ran aground north of the Gut.  There was sailboat anchored will full anchor lights there that obscured the Red Buoy. I did not double check the chart plotter. Was able to motor out.

We got back at 12:30 and I cleaned up the boat the next day.
