FFR with raft up

Katie, Carlye and Daniel came to do the FFR after the AS crewing screw-up.

Winds were pathetic and we set a 1.4 nM course from SL 32 to SL 31 and back in four starts.

As RC got to the Gut, winds picked up to 7 knots.  We have a race!

We finished the race in about 30  minutes and sailed around for 40 minutes and rafted up outside the club with Silence and eventually, Redline joined us and we BBQ, and snacked.

We stayed out till almost 1AM.

Night at the sandbars

After our Duggan Cup meeting with Luc and a beer with Denise, I took off sailing down the channel and ended up anchoring at the Sandbar.

Nice night in light south winds.  Bavette and goodies from Falafel St. Jacques.

The next morning, I motored back to the dock for fuel and re-screwed the furler screw that came off.  Looks like the blue thread lock wore out

Biked to the accountant for a

2PM meeting

Tuesday Race

Maud and Scarlett came out racing on Tuesday Series 1 GNS

Maud helmed.  We had a good start, but again we fell behind to be last.

On the way back to the club we hit the rock near PCYC and had to be towed out by the crash boat.

We motored out and sailed the rest of the way back to the harbour.  Scarlett gave me a lift home,

Pointe Claire for fireworks NOT

After the single-handed race, I sailed to Pointe-Claire in the smog.  Decided to dock at PCYC to get some supper instead of cooking.  PCYC bar was closed due to smog.  I walked Lake Shore and decided to order a small deluxe from GiGi.  Same menu as last year.

Activities at Alexandre-Bourgeau Park were cancelled due to smog.

I was starting to be tired and dizzy and congested.

I returned to the club and decided to eat at the dock and spend the night there.

The following day, I departed PCYC at 8, which was still foggy on the lake.  The forecast was stormy later that morning, so I sailed around for a while in the smog.  Came back to the harbour at 10 ish.

I worked on the boat, cleaning and preparing for our downriver trip.

Then I did the Adult Sailing course with Hani, Benoit and Saladhine.  They seemed to have lost the skills from last week's lessons.  I was very annoyed.

The crew was useless.  Last week they did much better and today was a disaster with docking and gybing.  I was frustrated, very frustrated with them.

Ominous CB clouds were forming but nothing came of it. In fact, the winds died and we had to paddle back.

I biked back home.

Single Handed - smoggy

I rode to the club for a 9:30 skippers' meeting.  Saturday was a supposed to be a rainy day

I tow Lara up to the race course.

11 nm course.

Very light winds.

It seemed most boats sailed out to the middle of the lake and had problems getting to the first mark AD28, but I stayed on course and made better speed or less distance.

After passing Lara, I figured we could not make AD20 and decided to be smart and tack long before getting to AD20.  In the end, Lara made it there well before me. Learn learn and learn more.

I did the first circuit and it was determined we could not finish the race within the 5-hour time limit.

Lake was smoggy from forest fires.  Montreal was the worst city for pollution today.

Thanks Ryan for these photos

Bought the skippers a beer

Left for Pointe-Claire afterwards to see the fireworks.

FFR

Rachael, Scarlett, Marie Claude, and Christine came out for the FFR with little hope for wind.

It had been windless for a couple of days and it looked dismal, but 12 boats came out. The race was called off at 18h45.  Marie Claude and I went for a swim in 23-degree waters.

Five minutes later, the winds came up and we had great sailing.  Redline passed us.

We sailed back to the club at 20h00 and had a nice supper with nice company until 23h20.

windless rachael

Rachael came to the club at 11  We took off trying to sail in ultra-low winds.  We motored up the channel and tried to tack around the lighthouse, but I almost hit the lighthouse before tacking south as winds descended.  Ended up trying to sail the zig-zag channel without out much success.  We ended up anchoring just the other side of the nearby cardinal, put up the umbrella, and passed the day having salad with chicken.  I swam a bit in 17-degree water.  Redline passed us leaving the club.

At 16h15, we pulled anchor and entered the harbour service dock, and did a pump-out. the fuel dock was closed.

We went to the FFR meeting on the lawn.

Choices

In the morning, I biked back home for Yoga, did home stuff, got my hair cut, and came back to the club.  Saw James in Lachine picking up pax.

Events for this Thursday were SH sailing to anchor, Electronics Tips and Tricks seminar, and Sailing with Sylvie.  So many choices

As I was walking on the lawn Pierre hails me to see if I needed crew.  He had a whole lot of Polytech students. Okay, let's go.  He gave me John Paul and Stela.  He kept the fs.

We motored out and about halfway out, we haul out the genoa, sailed for half an hour, and then motored out to the race area, waiting for winds.  None.  After the race was canceled, and we lingered around to finally motor back to the club.

Visited the end of the Electronics tips seminar.  Had jerk chicken at the dock.  Caroline and Coleen visited me at the dock.  Caroline wanted to buy a boat to sleep at the dock,
