No race Tuesday

On Tuesday evening I raced to the club for the Tuesday DNS after doing groceries at Costco.  Maud came late as I scrambled to the pool because Rod Hayes suggested Chantal Leger was.

The radar showed the rain was going to pass North, but a new system formed that hit us hard while we were still at the dock. Ghost Owl, Andiamo, smoke on the water had already gone out and Exixar was returning from Dowkers.  I saw 40 knots of wind on Bellum.

Richard said he has never seen anything so hard on the lake.

Maud and I chatted until the storm was over.  Then I had a Perroni beer with Veronica.

The boat was a mess as on Monday I emptied the v-berth to install the holding tank level alarm.  I did this the next morning and put everything away.

Single Handed Sunday

I got up, made bacon and eggs and washed the boat.

At 11, I took off sailing from the channel to the gut in nice winds with both sails.  I tacked up the lake for about 3 hours, passed Redline who was motoring back to the club from a weekend at Grand Anse and sand bars.

It was a pleasant sail, starting with Beethoven.

I continued up the lake and saw the Ian Bruce race.

There was no rain in the forecast but it started to drizzle and I tucked into Grand Anse just as the rain started.  I napped and spent the evening there.  Supper was sausage and grilled veggies.`

I updated my blog.

The next morning Monday I sailed back, I think.  Rebuilding my blog.

Meet-up

Robyn, Angelo and Maria joined us for a Saturday sail.

Robyn and Angelo bought Italian Pizza, sandwiches, salads and lots of wine.

There were no winds so we motored out to the sand bars near Zig Zag and swam and napped.  I think I fell asleep on the floatie.

About 4, we went out for a short sail and returned about 6 for supper and sunset.

Sailed back around 9 ish and I slept at the dock.

FFR not - RAFT UP

The lack of winds meant we had more time for the raft up with Audrey and Mike.

Jimmy was with me and Maud was with Audrey.  Mike was ending his one week vacation with Karla.

I made the rib steaks, potatoes with grilled vegitables - mushrooms, onions, peppers, zucunni and cherry tomatoes.  In fact it did not fit in my two BBQ and I had to grill some veggies on Zig-Zag grill.  Two BBQ are not enough???

Maude bought a salad with cranberries and cheese and Audrey bought a quanoa salad.  Jimmy bought a Sicillian wine and cannoli‘s.

My wind instruments and auto pilot display stopped working.

A great evening and sunset.  Jimmy went back with Gaucho and Zig Zag and Bellum stayed for the evening.

I returned to the club early to do the dishes, wash the boat and troubleshoot the instruments - seem to be a bad crimp on the power feed to the Sea-talk network.  Maybe something happened to it when I removed the iKommunicate the previous week.

I washed the boat getting ready for Saturday’s guests.

single handed again, but loving it.

After three days at the office, mostly due to lousy weather I did some errands returning cans and bottles I was going to head to the club but it was 9 and I decided to go home and head to the club Thursday morning.

Got to the club doing groceries at the IGA for the FFR raft-up.

I lingered around the club and about 3:30 I took off single-handed not knowing where I was going to. I sailed around in strong winds and about 6, I decided to do the Thursday DNS single-handed.

I had some problems putting up the main without the motor but eventually, I got it up.  Next time I will remove the lazy jacks.

Nice race, somewhat challenging but I am tuning up my single-handed racing skills.

After the race, I tacked up to Grand Anse tucked in for a southerly wind.  I was after 9 and quite dark. Supper was the leftover duck leg. Pretty good.

In the morning I realized I was in the middle of a weed field in 15 feet of water.  The boat was full of spider webs, including the masthead windex.

Got out and sailed back but eventually, I had to motor back in.  I tied up at the service dock but Slow Dancer was working on his masthead.  He offered to move his boat back or pull me up my mast.  I went up the mast.

Went back to my dock to charge batteries, wash the boat and did the final groceries of Rib Steaks for the FFR raft up.

Winds were very light.

No Tuesday race - Isaias

I cancelled the Tuesday race with Maud because of rain from Isaias coming at us.  Lots of winds too.

Single handed cancelled

Due to a lack of wind, the race was cancelled. But we can still sail - single-handed.

I changed the engine battery for a new Bolt hybrid.

No winds for race but nice later
Chris wanted his iKomunicate back so I opened the sub panel and gave him back the iKomunicate back along with a cable that he said was his.  I never used the iKommunicate since he installed it on September 21, 2016.  Besides a web interface, I really did not know what it was good for.  Maybe as a wi-fi bridge.

Chris borrowed my Loos gauge and I decided to tighten my shrouds too.  Chris and Norm put up Chris' genoa.

Norm took off sailing single-handed.  I followed after asking Chris if he was going.  He did not want to go alone and I offered but he was not available to stay overnight nor wanted to return with someone from the sandbars.

Nice sailing.. decent winds for a race that was cancelled for lack of winds.  We did a couple of circuits.  Norm met Louise on a Kayak on the lake.

We eventually anchored at the sandbars rather than Grand Anse.  Winds were very light overnight and there were threats of rain in the morning.

Super was duck for me and steak for Norm.  I was out of fresh meat.  Norm had leftover spaghetti rice and salad.  MLM suggested the rice was overdue.

We separated and I anchored a couple hundred feet away.  The next morning rain was coming in so I hauled anchored and returned just in time to avoid the rain and I was washing Bellum when Norm came in.  I helped him to dock.

Afterwards, I went off the MAC for free Sundays. I was pretty much the same exhibit as before COVID but two new films - Hito Steyerl, Liquidity Inc. and The Column

FFR with Andrei and Greg s

My crew was limited.  Only Andrei had confirmed.  Greg wanted to join us as we were walking to the dock Andrie had very limited experience. ...
