Anchored with Shana and Dmitriev

After moving a wall unit from Ray to Dmitriev, we had a nice lunch and put together the wall unit.

About 4, we went for a sail. Dmitriev was hot under the sun, so we anchored to put up the umbrella, but the clouds provided us enough shade so we napped and then came home at 8 to take care of Shana's cats.

Renee and Jimmy were invited but could not come.

Tuesday race with Nathalie and Kevin

There were risks of thunderstorm.  It was hot.

I went to PCYC to help Dave work on his Atomic IV. We got the carburetor out.  He will have it cleaned and is waiting for parts from Moyer

I drove to the club, Nathalie and Kevin joined us for a 20 minute race.  Wind were about  steady 7 knots. Storm clouds and rain were present over Pointe Claire but we only got a little drizzle.  Bill told me that we were supposed to start with PHRF. He lied.  Pierre Farmer told us there was a course change.  False.

The race lasted 24 minute.  We came in 10 out 12.  It was fast and crowded.  I was very accident adverse, with this crew and recent encounter with Capricorn.

Thunderstorms never came.

Busy weekend

I took a long weekend sailing.  Cindy came out Thursday and returned Friday.

Marianna called to go sailing, we anchored near the club, swam and then sailed in light winds to almost the gut and back.

Later Friday, I raced with Jimmy and Mike on Naomie.  We had a really lousy start.  The race was shortened due to light wind. We sailed back.  We started the engine and soon she started overheating. We pulled out the jib and sailed into the harbour.  I pulled the intake and the water flowed smoothly, so it was probably the water pump impeller.

I took off to spend the night at the sandbar.

Next morning, I bucketed the boat, cleaned up, read and updated this blog.

Lazy Saturday day, great day. It turns out Mike and Kelly were there at the sandbars too, but I had not seen them.  Saw Seal Cove anchor as the winds picked up.

Sunday looked too strong for single handed, so I sailed to Grand Anse, racing with Slow Dancer and back to the club.

Packed up the trailer for Shana and came home and BBQ the Barvette.

Very lazy long busy weekend.

Tuesday Race - NOT

Kevin cancels due to stomach bug.

Through Audrey, Andrio agrees to come, but cancels because he does not have sailing clothes in the car.

Bob cancels in last minute due to last minute family obligations

I called Nathalie to see if it was okay for just the two of us.  She invited her daughter, Emmie.

Cycling to get the ebike fixed and then to the club.  As I arrived, Brian asked if I could take an extra crew member Pierre.  I accepted.  What a mistake.  Pierre has owned a Laser 1 for three years, but had no ideas about sailing or basic physics.  And pretty much zero English.  And he was always in the way.  I cancelled our participation in the race and we went sailing.  Nice sailing. Emmie was groggy because of the seasick medication she had taken.

Nice sail, good docking

Biked back home to tidy up the locker tomorrow morning.

mini-vacation with Cindy

Cindy and I went out for a nice long weekend of sailing in a heatwave.

We met on Thursday noon and did some groceries.  We anchored at Valois Bay in light winds.  Then we went out to PCYC for the final protest hearing.  We and Capuricus were dis-qualified. :(

We sailed out to the middle of the lake in very light winds and anchored out there to see an extraordinary moon, two days after being full.  Made a quick supper of Codfish.

Next day (Friday) we lingered at anchor under the cockpit tent.  The winds picked up to 19 knots. I was pleased the tent held out but I did put it away and we were going to sail to better shelter from the west winds, but Cindy wanted a snack of ham, cheese and crackers and took a nap.  That was when she got seasick.  We hauled anchor and came back to the club.  Hung around the club.  Jimmy did not come to the club because he had a client coming at 4 and could not make it to the club for the race.

We had the steaks and lingered around the club.

Next day, Saturday we lingered around the club and went to Lynda's 60th birthday pool party.

We returned to the club via Lake Shore drive, visited the old dock besides PCYC. We met Mark on a Trimaran and he was heading to the Saguenay with just a Torqeedo Travel.  We exchanged email address and I sent him Patrick's presentation on Downriver.

There was a small system coming in from Ottawa and afterwards, we sailed out to Valois Bay for a supper of hoisin pork chops with sweet potatoes and enjoyed to sunset.

Next day, Sunday, we did a couple of circuits to Grand Anse, back to near the Gut, out to Beaconsfield and back to the club.  Had a pump out and then attended the AQVA meeting and came home for pizza and beer and a good night's sleep.

Nice mini-vacation.

Tuesday race - nice evening of racing

Had a nice evening of racing with Maud and Bob.  It was threatening to be windy and gusty and risk of rain.  A touch of rain and most of the winds were around 10 knots and steady.  Came in 9 out of 12

After the race, we docked, had super at PCYC so we could attend the protest hearing from last Tuesday's race.  The hearing was extended to Thursday so we could get more witnesses.

Rough motor back to the club, arriving at midnight.

Montreal Singles Cruise

The cruisers
I invited a bunch of cruisers from Facebook to come out for a nice Sunday sail

Winds were 15 to 20 at the start about noon.  We tacked to Grande Anse and anchored.  Snacked and wined but too cool for swimming.

Winds declined to 10 on the way back in a broad reach.  Returned to the dock about 19h

Present were Evelyne, Joanne, Ola, Melanie and Marc,

A fun time was had by all..

A good start

Annual Regatta

Maud, Kevin and Rebeca joined us for the annual regatta.

The crew and boat sailed well with the 140 mylar in 11 to 18 knots of winds.

A little confused by the start if there were 1 or 3 starts.  There were 2 starts.

We had a nice time.  Changed the headsail back to the furling sail afterwards and had some nice snack from Maud and gummy bears from Kevin.

I stayed for the Argentian supper with Patrick, Ed and Ricard.

I slept aboard.

FFR on Naomie with Jimmy Mike Shelley

Jimmy was alone so we took Naomie out for a great fun race.

Bellum was rigged with the racing sails, sans furler.

Supper at the club after.

Nice evening race goes awong

"There are good days and there are bad days, and I've had my share of both."

Charlie Bell

A nice hot Tuesday afternoon.  The weather has been very hot.  The wind forecast was going to drop to 8 knots gusting 12.  I thought I would change the headsail for the light winds. Norm agreed to arrive early to give me a hand.

I biked to the club.  It was windy and I had second thoughts. But I trusted the sailflow forecast and changed the headsail.

Norm, Maud, Bob and a new guy Richard crewed. Richard is a new boat owner of a Catalina 30 in the North Channel.  We met Richard at the CPS dinner a month prior.

We left early and motored to the gut and put up the sails.  Norm took the helm, we sailed around for a while until the start.  We ended up doing trying a Port Start due to bad planning but we switched to starboard just before the start, near the pin.  We crossed the line after some interference from a single-handed sailor on port.

Winds dropped and the boat sailed very well on the refurbished 150.  Winds dropped and directions were very fluky.  We veered off the windward mark as the wind shifted and there was a mess at the windward mark.  We overshot the mark passed AD22, tacked and headed for the gybe mark on starboard in at almost close haul.

We came up to the windward mark when Capricorn (the Alberg) was port passing the windward mark.  There was space for her to turn but she did not.  Instead, she headed towards us and hitting us in the aft port quarter.  She was caught in our lifeline and we had to fend and untangle things.  Once apart, we protested her, opening the protest flag and hailing PROTEST.

A couple of stanchions bent and a stanchion base broke, some scuffing on fibreglass and lifeline and toe rail.

We got out of the way and continued to race.

A nice evening with a slow return to the club.

All was calm.  Folded the headsail on the dock and norm and I went for Big Mac's.  I slept aboard and the next morning I removed the stainless parts to bring to Provige for repairs.

Bent and broken stanchions

Long weekend with Cindy

Cindy dropped by the club on Saturday after the Duggan cup was cancelled.

Cedric's jib got loose.  I had to go fix it.

Nice sail from club channel to St. Anne.  We stayed only for 10 minutes or so.  I was not too confident about the dockage tied up to rails at a parking lot.  We left and we piloted the channel between Ile Perrot and Dowkers for the first time ever.  10 feet minimum depth in high waters.

We anchored alone at Dowkers South.

Nice swim.  Supper of Kefta and spinach salad.

Later Seal Cove came and anchored. Overnight Sylvie apparently came around looking for us. They saw Seal Cove but not Bellum. They went off and anchored in some channel between Dowkers and two small islands about 1 AM.  The NE winds were no fun for them.

It was a little rocky but not too bad.  Supposed to be gusts to 20 knots from North.

Next day we lounged around,  Norm came by in the dinghy.

About 5, we left slowly sailing for the club and Cindy wanted to see the sandbars.  So we sailed there and decided to stay there and we cooked the Confit Canard with rice and leftover salad.  It was awesome.  Spent the night there and enjoyed a great sunset and spectacular sunrise over Montreal.  The anchor alarm came on twice but we did not drift.

There lots of big winged bugs in the cockpit in the morning,  We did a wash down and motored to the club and took Chris' van back to the office.
