Thursday race on Gaucho

I was at the club san crew.  I was not sure if I wanted to race.  Sylvie said she might be late and asked me if I could take Emma out racing if she could not make it.  I agreed to try to take her.

We sat on the lawn with Emma.  Audrey needed crew so we got a ride with her.  Patrick F and Peter S were there, but Peter exited the boat when his dog was barking.

Winds were standstill but it was a good evening for a ride.  Winds picked up a little and we got a good race in. We came in eight out of eight.  Patrick was a little loud.  Emma was quiet.  Al was Al.

On the way back we took down the main sail to reseat a batten and sailed back.  Emma and I stayed for supper.  I stayed aboard. Nice to go out.

Sailing with Andréanne

An invitation for a Wednesday sailing was issued and only Andréanne made it.  With the threat of showers and thunderstorms, we agreed to leave at 11:15 rather than the scheduled noon time.

Nice sail around the windmill and through the gut towards Pointe Claire and the wind dies so we decided to swim in the shallows north of the sandbars.

On the way back I set the head sail and checked the radar and decided to use the iron sail.  We accidentally missed the gut and passed south of the gut - successfully.

Came back into the harbour dodging Optis and flipped 49er in the harbour.  Winds were very gusty at the dock but made an uneventful docking.  Flirtation had left the dock a little earlier.

Visited the cook and sonny and the club pool at the club.

Tuesday Race

Maud and Sylvie came out for the Tuesday race.

Winds were forecast to be 8 knots, but in reality, it was 12-14 knots.  The crew convinced me to bring the 135 to replace the 155 on the furler. Good thing.

Winds did not decline so we put up the 135 underway and stuffed the 155 into the cabin.   Good call.

Sylvie steered.  She had not slept the night before and swayed way out of the channel while I was in the cabin.  :(

Had a great race.  Very few mistakes.  Slightly slow tacking.  Great crew, very familiar with the boat.

Sylvie and I stayed for supper.

Eric, kids and drone

Eric bought his kids and toys. Sylvie decided to tag along.

We headed out at 9:30 sailing with the genoa in light winds towards the zigzag channel and then anchored and swam around with the kids.

Eric took some nice drone videos.

The day was hot.

On the way back we picked up shark 6 and towed her back from near Dorval Island back to the Cardinal so she could try to sail or drift back to Dorval Island.

Sylvie and I spent the rest of the afternoon at the pool cooling off.

We watch the St. Jean fireworks.

Overnight at Grand Anse

Mac D - disapointment
Sunday morning was cold but forecasted to be warm in the afternoon.  I took the opportunity to cycle to Beaconsfield to visit Angell Wood park.  Nice area, nice dog walk.  CRAPPY breakfast at McDoug.  Service was ultra slow and food was cold.  Same experience the last time I went several years ago.

Angell Wood Park

I came back to the club after 38 km and it was nice and warm.  I charged the bike.

I chatted with Norm and then at 4:30, I took Bellum out in 18-23 knot winds.  Bellum was heeling madly with just the head sail.  I had to reef it.  Was not aware of how strong the winds were.  The boat was doing up to 6.4 knots.

I sailed around the main lake twice in 1 1/2 hours and then anchored tucked away in the NW corner of Grand Anse.  Supper was sausages and peppers and potatoes.  Slept from 10 to 8.

The next morning was windless.  Mary and I agreed to cancel so she could paint her walls.

I de anchored without engine and sailed back to the club.  En route, I opened the RAM 3 mike to dry her and reseat the LCD display.  Seemed to work much better.

After docking, Peter and Helene of Don't Panic were at the club fixing a lost spinnaker halyard and had applied to the club and needed me as a reference.

They helped me take down the North genoa and packed it to ship back to North Sails in Toronto. UPS and FedEx websites were problematic and I ended up bringing the sail to the FedEx drop-off center.

North had forgotten to install the UV cover on the sail.

I biked back to CDN to pick up a Sony TV remote control and then to moms for supper and turned off the Demo mode on her Sony Bravai.

Maud Cup NOT and new member's cocktail

It was very wet and windy Saturday morning for the Maud cup.

Jim, Ryan and Lauren were eager to go out.  I was convinced to tow a shark out.  It was challenging to pick up Ryan's shark.  He had left the dock and we successfully passed a line from two single-handed boats with only minor contact.

When I got to the first red mark, if I wasn't towing Ryan, I would have turned back.

My cockpit mike was not picking up Slow Dancer's voice.  Too much rain and wind.

Between the gut and the church, I heard the race was cancelled.  I wasn't sure until I saw Slow Dancer turn around.

Ryan had lots of problems with his shark trying to get the main sail up and getting the main sail down.

We made it into the harbour and I had a terrible docking, hitting the bow against the dock.

Norm was walking down the dock and helped tie up the mid-ship.

We had the New member's cocktail.  Met Chantal, Sylvie (mirage 30), Christine, Ryan, and Nancy.

I slept aboard.

Peter just just launched Caprice and was going to pick up his puppy, Persephone

Wednesday Meet up

Had a meet-up with Alex, Claudia, Cecilia, Mary and Rahim

We departed at 12.

Winds were light, we slowly ran to the gut and decided to anchor north of the channel and swim.  The temperature of the water was 18 degrees.

Rahmin had never been on freshwater before.  He also drifted too far from the boat and I had to throw him a life jacket and haul anchor to retrieve him.

We sailed back to the club for 4:30.

CAPEX meeting afterwards.

Christine drove me home at 10.  Got caught in terrible traffic.

Tuesday race

Sylvie did not join us.  She decided to rearrange her Wednesday session so she could attend the CAPEX meeting on Wednesday.

Rod, Maud and Norm came out.  The race was delayed because of major wind shifts.  We had to chase the RC further west.

Norm helmed the race.

We got pushed up and had contact with Smoke on the water who tried to push us up at the start line. We did not push AdLib who gave us room.  Nobody protested.

The winds died on our downwind leg and the course was shortened to one sausage.  We were sailing slow and a couple boats had passed us, complaining that they were starboard and we were port.  Again, no protests.

Nice sail back to the club.

BBQ with Norm apres. Strawberrt Moon.

Later I had thoughts about how close we were to the other boats during the race.

Single handed after sailpast

After sailpast, I set out to anchor West of Ile Dorval.  Nice evening, slept at ten PM

Nice west winds in the morning and at 8:30, I motored to the channel and tacked to the gut and to Baie d'urfie and sailed around.  New head genoa sailed very well.  Tried reefing her in 14-knot winds and she did very well.  Got back to the habour at 11:30, sewed a new hatch cover and hung around.

Sail Past 2022

Jimmy had a cold and cancelled.  Eve was concerned about the rain/thunderstorm so she cancelled.

Maud showed up after tennis and joined me on Bellum.

I had fouled the flags and lost my main halyard. I had to go to the sheerleg to retrieve the halyard.

The rain came about 20 minutes after the commodore returned to the club.

Cocktails started at 5 under the balcony.

I did not stay for supper.

The Lord Strathcona

With light west winds forecasted, we chose to use the 155 with the spinnaker.

The crew was Scott, Sylvie, Laura and Maud.  And me.

The course was to AD 28, windmill point, Bea B, a mini sausage on the downwind leg back and then zig-zag channel and finish.

We had lots of problems with the current making the tack at A38 S.  It took 3 tries.

The race lasted from 10 AM till about 4 PM - almost six hours

The spinnaker was good to have, but the sock was not so popular.  155 was over sailed and blown out of shape.  We switched to the new North 135 for the zig-zag leg.

We came in third. Ghost Owl, Slow Dancer and Espresso-X had not completed the course - missed the last mark AS15.

Friday Fun Race - Morgans

On Friday I biked to Debuc for new glasses, installed a new carb for Astri at PCYC

Jimmy did not show up for the race. John and Scott came out.

Very windy but the forecast was to calm down.  Audrey requested to wait until 7 to start the race because of the winds

Nice race with Obsessive Scientist and Esmeralda.  Flow Control came out but did not start. Her sails were too big for the winds and missed the start.

Supper with all afterwards.  I slept aboard for the Strathcona the next morning.
