Last sail of season with Tom

Tom wanted to help put the boat away, so we went sailing at 11. One reef on the main in 15 knots of winds.  We enjoyed some Imperial Stout and sailed the lake about three times with boat speeds up to 6.8 knots  Boat handled very well. We sailed from the gut in an east wind and went around the lake 3 times.

We got back at 3:24 and Norm was good enough to help us dock in the fearful south winds.

We removed and folded main, genoa and rolled up the dinghy and Tom drove me and the three bags home. I was tired.

Saturday with Natalia

I had a rough week with Bell and with my new home network.  I was up to 3AM rebuilding my network.  I needed a break.  Called Natalia up and she also had a rough week to, so we went off at 1PM to sail. Good winds of 10 to 12 knots of winds.

We sailed the lake and came back to anchor just outside the club with zero engines.  I lit the BBQ and started cooking chikon thighs, martian brains, and spuds, but the winds and waves at Marler's were too much, so we pulled anchor and docked and tried to BBQ at the dock.  Winds were still too strong and we ended up cooking on the stove.  Chris drops in on us aboard without knocking.

Natalia went home and I chatted with Veronica and Erin and then slept aboard. It was cold, I had the electric heater.  At 3, I turned the heater off and it never came back on again.

Windy day with Maud - Thanksgiving

After docking, I wondered around a bit, putting away the oil change pump into the locker and Maud had found her way aboard.

I thought of going down the seaway but decided not to, partially due to the removal of several buoys.

We took off in strong easterly winds to Dowkers with jus the headsail and decided winds were too strong for anchoring and we ducked to the western side of Dowkers which was better and very pretty with the fall foliage.

Foilage at western Dowkers

Had lunch and headed back to the club with just the headsail.

Winds were 13 to 20 knots.

SH Sailing and anchor outside PCYC

We got a reprieve when I was offered an extra weekend before haul out.  Saturday was supposed to be rainy and very windy.  It was very windy and a storm came in Saturday evening.  So I never went to the club

The water level had dropped.

Sunday, Darla and I decided it was too cold.  I biked to the club anyways and decided to sail out with a light eastern wind.  Fugu went out before us followed by Flow Control.  Redline was already out.

It was a very slow run to the gut and to PCYC church when I saw Redline return under power and then Fugu and Flow Control returned.

Winds were 5 knots in PM  Went up after 7PM

I figured there were no winds so I anchored outside AD22 without power.  Gorgeous sunset.   The wind picked up and sunset was before 7.  Supper was sausages with legume and pea pods.  Read and watched a download Sunday MOrning and snuggled into the mummy bag.  The boat was rocky with current from the west and winds from the east.  But nothing like Putney Bay.  Halyards were noisy but not bad enough to fix.

Sunset

At 7 AM, the temperature was 1C but it was probably below zero overnight. The mummy bag was excellent.  No need for Espar.

Sunrise

In 22 feet of water, I had lots of scope and with the shifting winds, it was a very shifty night.

Winds were 16 knots.

I motored back to the club to pick up the crew.

Frostbite 1 with Norm

Norm and I raced the first frostbite of the 2020 season.

Three races, two triangles, one sausage.

Winds were medium-light with increasing oscillations for the third race.

The first two races were better, the third race we came in second to last.

Chris raced on Gaucho

Chris gave me and my bike a lift home.

Overnight at Valois Bay

After the Pas de deux race, I decided I wanted to spend the night at anchor.

Supper was Korean chicken thighs on the BBQ.

It was cool, but I had my mummy bag that was quite warm.

Winds were 5-9 knots.  Quiet overnight and 5 to 8 knots in the morning.  I motored back to the club for the Frostbite with Norm.

Pas de deux

I biked to the club on Saturday morning.  It was relatively wet on Friday night so I did not go to the club.

Maud and I met at 10 to do the annual Pas de deux hosted by PCYC. We waited for two hours floating around and then sailed for four hours.  Lots of holes in the wind.  Lots of shifts.  Lots of fun.

We came in 16 out of 23, but the time limit was exceeded.

Single handed to Grand Anse

After the final DNS race, I packed up the stuff to do an oil change and decided to go sailing instead.

Nice sail from the club south, then through Valois Bay the gut and then to Grand Anse where I thought I heard an emergency call from Dowkers but it was from Lake of Two Mountains.

I anchored at Grand Anse and had a nice night. Finished off the last duck leg.

The next morning was windless so I motored back, doing an "Italian tune-up" and changed the engine and transmission oils

Biked back to the office but light showers diverted me home

DNS with Chris and Norm

Chris Norm and I sailed the final DNS in relatively windy conditions.

Finished last on both races.Thinking of taking up golf,

Saturday with Natalia

We are going through a mini-heatwave in the last weekend of September in Montreal

I had supper with Toni and the next morning, I biked to the club hoping for a great weekend on the boat.  There was no wind so I waited a bit before departing when Natalia called and said she wanted to go sailing so I waited for her on the lawn while reading Scott's Gazette.

Winds were light, very light but it was hot, not bad for the end of September.

She arrived and we motored to the gut, tried to sail but there was not much wind and it was hot so we swam in 17-degree water.  It was nice.

Wishing Jason a happy Birthday

We sailed to Grand Anse and had a vegetarian supper due to her pancreatic situation.

Natalia

The next morning we motored back to make it for the final Fall DNS with Norm and Chris.  Norm helped me dock in South Winds.

Redline mini boys trip

Norm and I took off for a boy's trip.  We anchored overnight at Dowkers.  Monitored Richard doing a boat maintenance course.

Fixed the dinghy winch control and replaced the dinghy blocks.  Visited Gordon's former fort and hunted for poison ivy..  We had a slow return to the club.

Friday I redid my winches and installed wash down switch in the anchor locker.  Had supper with Toni at Taklamakan and then decided to come home.  I decided it was too late to head back to the club.

Afternoon sail with Laure

After the single-handed race, I went out for a nice afternoon sail with Laure.

Single Handed Pursuit Race

I woke up in the penthouse, I did not feel like racing - it was cold and winds were light, but Jason’s FB post convinced me to go .. by bike.

The race started late waiting for winds.

The race started at noon.  I was ahead but messed up at the first mark, forcing me to jibe to make the mark.

Got bad luck against the second mark, but gots a lucky lift at the third mark AD28 with a lift.  The downwind was uneventful, my $600 whisker pole let me pass Regalia and Flow Control, but could not catch up to Fugu who was well ahead.

Club Championships 2 - insane winds

Norm and I took Shark 4 for the second seedings for the club championships.

Winds were supposed to be strong with gusts to 23 knots or so.  We watched Shark 2 go out at 4:45 and it looked a little tough.

We got out at 5:30.  The winds did pick up at 6 and were quite wet by 6:30.  It had fun.  Pierre's shark lost the halyard at the beginning of the first race.

We got the boat to plane.  It was awesome.

We were last but we did our course.  The final gype into the harbour was a little haphazard as we struggled to un-cleat the main.

I changed clothes and decided to ride home on my bike but on the way to the bike, I went to say Hi to Mike and was invited to supper of marinated pork chop and macaroni salad.

I slept aboard and biked to my meeting the next morning.

No sailing with Laurie

I was supposed to go sailing with Laurie but the winds were light, the temperature was 14 to 12 and there were some showers.  So I cancelled it.

Club Championships Race 1

Norm and I raced Shark 3.  We raced two races.  5 Sharks. Finished last both times.  But we made it to the Club Campionships!

Sailing with Ola, Mich, and Tom

Tom wanted to go sailing for the first time in his life.  He had registered for the Adult learning program but it was cancelled by COVID 19.  He had been studying with the ASA sailing app.

Ola has been with us last year and had her 8-year-old son Michael.

Arrived at 10:40.  Nice winds, went around the lake with a downwind start from the channel.

When we return to the harbour about 4:30, Tom produced a Bowmore 12-year-old.  Ola and Mich left as Tom and I reviewed the sailing.  We almost finished the bottle. (It was a small bottle)  Chris showed up and power washed Flow Control and gave me and the Cube a lift home.

Friday nite at anchor

After the shark, Norm was having supper with family so I motored out to the bay beside the club to spend the night.

Very pleasant evening, even had wifi access to the club.  Not really as cold as forecast.
