Awesome Duggan Cup

Participants in the Duggan cup were Tara II, Bete Noir and Slow Dancer 2.

Sylvie accompanied me to race.

We sailed very nicely tacking to the gut and had some depth issues at the south end of the lake giving us shallow indications where it should have been clear.  We made it through the windmill point channel and relaxed as we casually snacked on veggies and dip while we were on autopilot.  Then we had a depth alarm and quickly tacked to avoid a one-foot shallow area near the seaway.  whew!

Got to Pointe aux Cascade and rafted up with Slow Dancer and Tara II.  We were entertained by a couple of boats that had lots of floating toys that dragged their anchor and drift towards Tara II.  There were lots of skimpy-clad bikinis on board and it was quite a mess that she had to put away in order to untangle and depart. The skipper was nervous and obviously not familiar with the vessel.

Bete Noir showed up much later as she decided to do a Sail Week race while on her way to Soulanges.

After a BBQ, Bete Noir and Bellum anchored separately as Tara and Slow Dancer stayed rafted up.

The race started reasonably for the four boats.  Winds were a strong 12 to 18 knots mostly in a run.  We ran interference with Nukumi leaving Beauharnois.  Got 5 horns and a long one.  I was in the channel.  Bete Noir was on the other side of the channel and crossed in front of the ship.  She missed AS 38, went towards the windmill channel and returned to make AD 38.  In the meantime, Slow Dancer fouled Tara II and Bellum fouled Slow Dancer at great risk of collision as Slow Dancer had backed her jib as did Bellum.  Bellum started her motor and got out of there.

Later Slow Dancer started her engine to make it through the windmill point channel.  Both boats furled their genoas until we got through the channel, we turn off our motors.  Bellum had abandoned the race but did the course for fun and we took photos. Slow Dancer seemed to continue to race.

We finished and had drinks aboard Bellum.

Brian reported losing two hats.  Sylvie and I both lost our Tilleys and recovered them. not a good weekend for hats.
